LITTLE FALLS — Vernon E. Leibold Jr., 61-year-old resident of Little Falls, Minn., died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at his home Darling Township. A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Camp Ripley Chapel inside the Main Gates with the Rev. Nate Bjorge officiating. Burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, Minn. Friends may gather from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, Minn., and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the Camp Ripley Chapel. The Little Falls American Legion Post No. 46 will provide the military honors.

Vernon E. Leibold Jr. was born Jan. 16, 1951, in Brainerd, Minn., to Vernon and Beverly (Gendron) Leibold. He enlisted in the United States Navy on Feb. 18, 1969, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1972. Vernon received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal, during his time enlisted in the military. He was united in marriage to Karen Mae Callahan at the First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd, Minn.

The couple made their home in Brainerd, Minn., for a short time. They also lived in River Falls, Wis., Superior, Wis., before moving to Little Falls in 1982. Vernon worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for eight years. He then went to work for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He worked in the Highway Maintenance Department for 28 years. He retired from MnDot in December 2009. Vernon enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting, the Minnesota Vikings and Monday Night Football, playing cards especially, Texas Hold ‘Em. He treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Minnesota Trappers Association and the Little Falls American Legion Post No. 46.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karen Leibold, of Little Falls, Minn.; children, Vernon (Gina) Leibold III, of Little Falls, Minn., Jason (Tammie) Leibold, of Royalton, Minn., Paul (Erin) Leibold, of Randall, Minn., Ray Leibold, of Randall, Minn., and Naomi (Jason) Nolan, of Brainerd, Minn.; parents, Vernon Sr. (Beverly) Leibold, of Brainerd, Minn.; siblings, Marilyn (Raymond) Puetz, Diane Villnow, Julie Miles, Melanie Strobel, Loretta (Willie) Pohlman and Karen Ojala, all of Brainerd, Minn.; grandchildren, Leevi Leibold, Leeah Leibol, Zachary Leibold, Jacob Leibold, Nicholas Leibold, Nicole Mead, Kayla Mead, AnnaMae Leibold, Linsey Kowalzek, Nevaya Dunham, Ashley Kowalzek, Kimberlee Nolan; and many nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Kimberly Leibold; sister, Kathy Eck; and a brother-in-law, Don Villnow.
Arrangements for Vernon are with the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, Minn.
